Summer Sing 2018

15. August 2018, 20:00 - 23:00

Summer Sing
After the fabulous singers’ night last August, let’s see if we can beat it!
The recipe will remain the same, just get in touch to be included. Lots of 10 minute spots available.
Please contact Phil Benson if you want to perform, but spots may still be available on the night, subject to the time available, of course.

Floor Singers booked to perform on the night …

Elaine Meechan
Elaine, keyboard and accordion player in many an ensemble, has that rare talent that true musicians possess; the ability to empathise with those she performs with. She is an important part of a number of folk-related bands in the area.

John Meechan
John has been on the folk scene for 40-odd years. Hailing from Yorkshire, many of his songs are rooted there.
His passion for folk songs has resulted in a wide-ranging repertoire, always particularly well-presented.

Pete McParland
Pete performs regularly, and with acclaim, at numerous folk clubs in the Midlands. Songs from the 60s and 70s are his forte, but he wanders into other areas, too, with great success.

Bob Brooker

Dave Webb
Dave is definitely Bedworth’s candidate for ‘The oldest Singer in Town’. A former miner (as well as other trades) Dave is a traditional guy with a repertoire of traditional songs many of which tell the story of miners and their families.
He has also written a few songs about his own time down the local pit and has now introduced several monologues into his repertoire which invariably get audiences laughing.

Jak Lynch
Jak plays solo, as well as with Fray’d Knot, and Maria as a duo.
Catchy sing-alongs will help keep us doing just that.

Gill Gilsenan
Gill started singing at The Corner House Folk Club in the 70s (run at the time by Malc) with her partner, and later to be husband, Bryan Sunderland. After Bryan’s death in the 90s, she formed a musical and personal partnership with Ace guitarist Dave Bennett.
She now performs with Malc Gurnham as Malc and Gill, and is involved with Bedworth Folk Festival.

Thrup’nny Bits
Thrup’nny Bits (Des Patalong, and Gareth and Barbara Wyatt) is a three voice unaccompanied harmony group singing traditional and contemporary folk songs with some Early Music and humourous songs for good measure.
They like to feel their performances have light and shade.

Drunk Monkey
John Kearney
John is a great supporter of the local Folk Clubs. His songs range from traditional through to contemporary, and even the odd pop song has been known to creep in occasionally. John also writes some songs of his own and his friends’ experiences, all of which are performed in his unique manner.

Geoff Veasey
Geoff sang, wrote, published and recorded with Coventry-based Black Parrot Seaside, from 1975-1982 and again between 2006 and 2014. Albums released: “Roll it Up and Eat It“ and “Aint It Grand”. Geoff, along with several other musicians, is part of that (very!) loose collective Mac Awe On Tour. Geoff still appears solo at Clubs Clubs and Festivals. He has recently co-written some songs with John Kearney.
Other members of the collective TBA.

The Wright Brothers
The Wright Brothers were part of an active local folk band in the 60s and 70s. Having recently reformed as a duo, they sing mostly traditional songs and play a variety of instruments.
Their focus is on chorus songs.

Sue Sanders
Hailing from Halifax, music teacher Sue has been involved in folk music for “a little while”. Currently living in Nuneaton with husband Phil, she plays fiddle, and sings.
A regular at folk clubs and festivals, she is bound to add joy to any evening.

Brian Phillips
A regular performer on the folk music scene in the Midlands and the West Country, he gives all he has, whether it be a floor spot at a club night, or as the principal artist on the main stage at a festival.

And your hosts, of course, are
Finger In The Jar
Formed especially as the host group for Atherstone Folk Club in June 2013, Finger In The Jar are Anne & Steve Beeson and Phil Benson.
Finger In The Jar perform as a group, as duos and as solo artists, depending on the songs being sung.

If you have been missed off the list, my apologies, and please remind me!
… and we are now chocka!
It’s going to be a busy night.
