The Standing Waves Released their Debut Album “early reflectionsʼ in JUNE 2017.
Recorded in the South West with a line up of musicians from Bristol Brighton and Exeter, the record brought to life material written by singer Will Odgers, Producer Jolyon Holroyd and Guitarist Andrew Claridge. The album was completed with the additional contributions of drummer Damo Waters (British Sea Power) and importantly Debbie Brown who delivered the perfect elegant counterpoint to Odgersʼs vocal.
Q Magazine gave the record a four star review saying ‘ From Muscular and melancholy to slow country grace, this is a band that touch a lot of bases but never stay on them for too long. A remarkable, assured and gorgeous collection.ʼ
RNR Magazine also awarded four stars and said ‘Pounding…Haunting…Elegant.Sometimes a record is worth persevering with. This is just such a record.’
Americana UK said ‘These ten songs are a tidal wave of pleasure, polished and charming examples of a subtle mix of Americana genres, Theres Intensity, theres bravery too while maintaining a contemporary feel and universal appeal. Like a feverish dream you might never have had.ʼ
Spurred by this success, the band recruited musicians Jonny Cook and Miranda Sykes (bass) and Bruce Whiteley (drums) to play a sold out debut/album launch show in Exeter, and then a rapturously received set on the bill between Kate Rusby and Laura Marling at Moseley Folk Festival 2017, this was followed a capacity show at The Dart Music Festival.
The Standing Waves are currently midway through recording their second album which is expected to be ready sometime next year.
The band will be supported on the 14th December at The Beehive by the excitingly original West Country siren Sadie Horler in a rare show with her full band. Expect a spell binding evening.
